All is Well

Good morning! We are happy to report that we've seen Jared this morning and he is talking and in good spirits. The Dr. said that his facial nerve wasn't damaged, he is able to move all of his face which is a huge praise!

Sorry for the delay in posting, Jared was in recovery for a long time yesterday and didn't get to a room in ICU until about 1:00 am. So we didn't have much to report.

He is still pretty nauseated and in quite a bit of pain. So please pray for that to subside.

He will not be able to have visitors in ICU.

Thank you so much for checking on Jared. We really appreciate the prayers and support we are receiving!

Out of Surgery

Both the surgeons just came out to talk to us. They said everything went well, they were able to remove all of the tumor. Thankfully the facial feeling nerve is intact. He might have some weakness in his face, but it should be temporary. They still say that it is highly unlikely that the hearing nerve will recover.

He is not awake yet and is still in the recovery. We are wating for him to be moved to ICU so we can see him. They told us that it might be a couple more hours. We are ready to seeing him!

In Surgery

Jared's surgery is in progress. I've gotten 2 reports from the nurse that everything is going really well. I will post when we know something else.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers!

Welcome To Jared's Recovery Blog

First off, welcome to Jared's Recovery Blog. Over the next few weeks, this blog will serve as the information and update site for Jared's surgery and recovery. We thought this would take some of the stress off of Becky and allow her to just be with Jared and care for him. Please, check the blog for updates in relation to Jared's surgery and recovery. We will do our best to update as necessary.

Well, if you have not heard, Jared has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The short version is he has a tumor originating at the end of his ear canal pressing against the base of his brain stem. It is attached to his auditory nerve and has caused hearing loss, which is how we found it. These kind of tumors are benign, which is a huge praise! This kind of tumor is called an acoustic neuroma. If you want some more info on it, click here to see what Wikipedia says about it.

He will be having surgery to remove the tumor this Monday, Nov. 29th starting about 7:30 am at Memorial Herman Hospital in the Med Center. The procedure is about 8 hours long. He will then spend 2 days in ICU and probably another couple of days in the hospital. Then he will be recovering at home for most of December. To say the least this will turn our lives upside down for a few weeks, but Lord willing we hope to be able to get back to normal as soon as possible.

Specific Prayers:

- For rest for Jared and I before the surgery

- For protection over Jared's body

- For the surgery to go as well as possible. For clarity for Dr. Chen and Dr. Chang

- That they would be able to remove all of the tumor and not have to leave any behind

- For protection of his facial feeling nerve and brain stem, for no damage to be done to either of them

- For the Lord to preserve his hearing, they have told Jared that he most likely will not be able to hear out of that ear. I pray that his hearing is preserved and the Dr's will be amazed!

- For the our boys, they are staying with family and friends for the week, for everything to go smoothly with them.

- For peace for Becky through this process and that I would be able to help and support him

It is no coincidence that the testimony at church this last week was a lady sharing about her husband having surgery last year and how God was faithful to bring them through it. She shared John 11:4-

"This sickness will not end in death, No it is for God's glory, so that God's Son may be glorified through it."
This verse truly reflects our family's heart desire.
Thank you for your prayers and support! Check back for updates on 11/29.
Love,
Becky and Jared
